Screening followed by a Q&A with the director Michel K. Zongo via Skype
Years after the death of his brother the Burkinabe filmmaker Michel Zongo is travelling to Cote d’Ivoire. As many young men Joanny was searching for a job in the rich neighbor country, but never returned. The director sets out to learn about Joannys destiny. Who was he, how did he live and die? In Cote d’Ivoire Zongo meets a whole community of Burkinabes who are working under hard circumstances at the cocoa and coffee plantations. They all want to make money in a short time to return home quickly. But the reality looks different.
Espoir Voyage is an emotional story about the disappearance of a brother in exile, but also an investigation of the history of working migration between Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire.
