The event Hard Shoulder – Interdisciplinary Approaches to Sila Yolu is an invitation to talk, discuss and share experiences on the “sıla yolu”. In the first part of the event, experts from various disciplines present their work related to the route between Germany and Turkey. Ömer Alkın (Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, Film Studies) works with Turkish migration films, in which the distance between Germany and Turkey plays a role. Gökhan Mura (Izmir University of Economics, Design Studies) focuses his research on the souvenirs which were brought by the Turkish immigrants from Western Europe to Turkey. Martina Priessner (documentary filmmaker) will speak about her long-term research on the route and her new film project. Following the presentations, the public is invited to join an interactive discussion and share their memories, opinions and experiences on the “sıla yolu”.
The presentations will be in Turkish. The discussion will be translated into Turkish and German.
“Hard Shoulder” is organized in frame of the exhibition SILA YOLU – The Holiday Transit to Turkey and the Tales of The Highway of Can Sungu and Malve Lippmann. The event is kindly supported by Goethe Institute Istanbul.
