SILA YOLU BERLIN

24.09 – 09.10.2016

SILA YOLU – The Holiday Transit to Turkey and the Tales of the Highway

SILA YOLU focuses on the highway route between Western Europe and Turkey which is mostly used by Turkish immigrants since the 1960s. The same route is famous today as the Western Balkan route and crossed by refugees in the opposite direction to Europe. We are interested not only in the physical space between the two places, but also in the emotional space in which concepts of culture, identity and community rapidly interchange. The outcome of the on-site and archival research is presented in a mobile audio-visual installation and exhibition. Set up in an old Ford Transit, the typical and now symbolic car used by many Turkish immigrant families for the journey between their old and new homes. Between September 24 and October 9 the mobile exhibition made different stops in Berlin. In the parallel program we light up the subject with screenings and talks.
